{"id":101,"date":"2010-12-03T18:54:24","date_gmt":"2010-12-03T06:54:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.oldchurch.org.nz\/?p=101"},"modified":"2010-12-19T12:08:36","modified_gmt":"2010-12-19T00:08:36","slug":"advent-and-remembrance-service-on-advent-sunday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/old-church.lndo.site\/2010\/12\/03\/advent-and-remembrance-service-on-advent-sunday\/","title":{"rendered":"Advent and Remembrance Service on Advent Sunday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>During the singing of &#8216;The Lord is my Shepherd&#8217; the bell tolled 29 times and candles were lit. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oldchurch.org.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/David-Scoffham_1745.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.oldchurch.org.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/David-Scoffham_1745.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"David-Scoffham_1745\" width=\"160\" height=\"196\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-105\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nA tribute was paid to the miners who lost their lives by David Scoffham, a director of NZ Oil and Gas, who has been directly involved with Pike River Coal mine. He brought the events of the disaster even closer.<br \/>\nThis was Christ Church, Russell\u2019s tribute to the Pike River Coal mine disaster held in conjunction with our Ecumenical Service for Advent. This was a service of sadness and hope.<br \/>\nThe address given by Revd Chris Swannell  focused on the lone miner\u2019s hat found in the mine with its light still shining&#8230;&#8230;.<br \/>\nThis was a very moving service which we were pleased to share with our Catholic brothers and sisters .<br \/>\nAt Christ Church this year we have in place of the traditional Advent wreath an Advent  cross.
